Quinta do Lago – South Course

One of the Algarve's most storied championship layouts, Quinta do Lago South was designed by William Mitchell and opened in 1974, going on to host the Portuguese Open Championship on eight occasions between 1976 and 2001. Set within the spectacular Quinta do Lago estate amid umbrella pines and the distinctive sandy terrain of the region, the course follows an anti-clockwise routing that favours the draw shot and presents a variety of strategic options on every hole. Long hitters find particular reward here, but the course's true distinction lies in its subtlety — each hole offers one optimum route to the pin, and the player who reads Mitchell's intentions most accurately will find the scoring opportunities that elude those who simply overpower the layout.
