History of Murcar Links Golf Club
Established in 1909 to the design of Archie Simpson, with later refinemenst made in the 1930's by the celebrated golf course designer James Braid, Murcar is indeed a Championship links of some renown, in the finest of Scottish traditions.
The testing links course is regarded as a championship venue by both the R&A and Scottish Golf and has hosted many national amateur and professional tournaments. Murcar Links regularly features in lists of the Top 100 UK courses and Top 40 Scottisg courses.
As part of the continuing aim to improve facilities, a state-of-the-art irrigation system covering the entire championship course was installed during late 2023. This is in addition to recent upgrades to the clubhouse, carpark and practice facilities.
Murcar Links Golf Club is a 15 minute car journey from Aberdeen International Airport (ABZ) and the city centre. The club is readily accessible from the new Aberdeen bypass (AWPR). The club is located next to Royal Aberdeen Golf Club. The Trump International and Cruden Bay courses are10 and 20 minute drive away respectively.
The Course
The Murcar Links Championship Course has a range of 5 tees rated for both Gents and Ladies. The front 9 holes sit below the dunes along the North Sea coast while the back 9 are inland and more elavated with spectacular views of the coast and Aberdeen City. The black tees stretch to 6462 yards through to the forward tees at 5275 yards. Par is 71 for Gents and 72 for Ladies.
In July 2024 the club welcomed 9 time major winner Mr Gary Player to the Club. A true gentleman, Mr Player took the time to chat to everyone and made it a truly special day. During the 8 holes played many a tip was passed on or a story was shared to the gallery that followed. Mr Player also took the time to record a visdeo meassgae and compliment the condition of the course, the video can be viewed on the Club website.
