About Boat of Garten Golf & Tennis Club
Boat of Garten Golf Club, set within the Cairngorms National Park is renowned as one of Scotland’s ‘Hidden Gems’. Located just 30 minutes south of Inverness and only 40 minutes from Nairn and Castle Stuart, ‘The Boat’ is a very worthwhile addition to any golfing itinerary in the North of Scotland.
The Club, founded in 1898, began as a 6 hole course which was extended to 9 holes in 1910 and then in 1930 to 18 holes by one of the grandmasters of golf course design, James Braid. Braid himself regarded this as one of his finest creations, set in glorious Highland scenery, it is undoubtedly a challenge for all levels of golfer. Do not be put off by the deceptively modest yardage – the course plays much longer – and accuracy is of the essence. Braid cleverly sculpted the course out of a natural pine and birch woodland, each hole having its own identity and features and it plays like a mixture of links and heathland courses. Unsurprisingly, the course is consistently rated in the top 40 courses in Scotland.
Located as it is, Boat of Garten is near many of the Highlands other attractions - from whisky distilleries to the Strathspey Steam Railway running alongside the opening holes and the world renowned salmon fishing river, the River Spey, visible from the inward holes.
