Meaztegui Golf Club

Meaztegi Golf Club is a public 18-hole, par-72 championship course located in La Arboleda, in the municipality of Trapagaran, just 21 kilometres from the centre of Bilbao in the Basque Country, northern Spain. Opened in 2005, it holds the distinction of being the first public golf course in Bizkaia, designed by legendary Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros and supervised by Trajectory, S.L.

Stretching over 6 kilometres from the back tees, the course weaves through a landscape that was once a historic mining region, today transformed into a lush green setting where artificial lakes, native vegetation and panoramic views of the Bilbao estuary and surrounding mountains create a truly unique atmosphere. The layout combines wide, rolling fairways with challenging, well-protected greens and natural elevation changes that reward strategic shot-making at every level.

Among its standout holes, Hole 6 is a scenic elevated par-3 with a green surrounded by water, Hole 10 is a technical par-4 with a dogleg left, and the 18th hole offers a dramatic finishing hole with views over the lake and the Bilbao skyline. The club also features a 9-hole Pitch & Putt course, a covered and outdoor driving range, putting green, chipping area, pro shop, and a welcoming clubhouse with a restaurant — making it a complete facility for golfers of all abilities.

Meaztegi Golf Club stands out as one of the most accessible and high-quality public golf venues in northern Spain, open to all without the barriers of a private club, and is widely regarded as a benchmark for golf in the Basque Country.
