Otago Golf Club

Founded in 1871, the Otago Golf Club holds the distinction of being New Zealand's oldest golf club and one of the most historically significant in the entire Southern Hemisphere. Its Balmacewen course is a championship layout of genuine character — bounded on one side by native bush and opening on the other to tranquil residential Dunedin, with expansive views stretching across the city, the Otago Peninsula, and the ridgelines of Mt Cargill and Flagstaff. The club's competitive legacy is extraordinary: the inaugural New Zealand Amateur Championship was held here in 1893, a distinction subsequently repeated on ten further occasions, while the New Zealand Open has graced the course seven times, beginning in 1908.
