About Portsalon Golf Club
One of Irelands oldest and most scenic Links courses set along the Fanad Peninsula. Originally designed by Charles Thompson with a major redesign by Pat Ruddy in 2000, creating the modern 18-hole layout. It is often described as a “hidden gem” of Irish Links golf, combining historic charm with breathtaking scenery. The layout offers a mix of classic old holes and modern redesigns, fairways and greens weaving naturally through sand dunes, several quirky, traditional features like blind shots and shred greens – with a constant challenge from the Atlantic winds, making accuracy more important than power. The opening stretch is particularly memorable, including holes played along the beach and over water, setting the tone for a varied and engaging round. Portsalon is not the longest Links in Ireland but it is highly strategic, shot-focused, full of character and variety with views on nearly every hole
