Carne Golf Links lies on the remote and rugged Mullet Peninsula, along the Wild Atlantic Way, in the North West of County Mayo in Ireland. An area renowned for its' wild and ancient landscape.
Set in magnificent, unspoilt sand dunes stretching 150m above sea level, the highest in Europe, with breaktaking views of the Atlantic across Blacksod Bay and the legendary islands of Inis Glóire and Inis Géidhe. The course features eighteen amazing holes designed by the late Eddie Hackett, and true to his philosophy for respecting the natural landscape, the tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction. Carne was the last course designed by Eddie Hackett, and in his own words, he saved the best till last...
The back nine of the Hackett 18 integrates with the newer Kilmore 9 course (a joint creation of McIntosh Golf Design and Jim Engh working to fulfill Eddie Hacketts original vision of expanding his original 18 holes into the most dramatic part of the landscape at Carne), and creating the Wild Atlantic Dunes course, which is arguably the most spectacular links course in Ireland. Raw and untamed, with increased drama as the holes weave their way through the awe inspiring corners of the Carne dunes system, to create the biggest dunes course in the world. Carne offers traditional, raw, links golf at its' very best in a truly unique and idyllic golfing location, an experience not to be missed. Golf truly at the edge of the earth.
Carne is rated in the top 50 Golf Courses in the UK and Ireland, and in the top 8-14 golf courses within Ireland, dependent on the ranking originators.
Carne is renowned for its' hopsitality, and was the first Golf Course in Southern Ireland to receive the IGTOA Quality Assurance Mark for golf courses in Ireland in 2020, and have also been awareded the IGTOA Excellence in Customer Service for Ireland.
Carne is to host the Irish PGA Championship in August 2021, a very prestigious event, and fitting that Irelands' youngest links course will host Irelands' oldest tournament.
Carne is owned by a not for profit company who hold the golf course in trust for the local community. Any profits made are invested into the development and promotion of tourism in this remote region.
