On the shores of the Red Sea at Somabay Resort, Gary Player delivered a course he himself described as the Pebble Beach of Africa — and the comparison bears scrutiny. Six of the eighteen holes are positioned directly on the Red Sea coastline, the azure water defining both the horizon and the hazard on some of golf's most dramatically sited holes. Designed in the mid-1990s, the course meanders through the desert landscape of the peninsula with constant views of the sea and the rugged mountains of the Egyptian coastline beyond.
