What does unlimited golf actually include?
Separate the fee entitlement from the reservation
Read an unlimited-golf offer as two questions: which green fees are covered, and when can you reserve the golf? A package can cover an additional round while leaving the tee time subject to availability. That matters if the entire reason for upgrading is to play a favourite course twice.
A replay is an additional round, often on the same day. Ask whether it must follow a completed first round, whether it must be on the same course, and when booking opens. Also establish whether the golf entitlement is counted per night or per day, and what happens on arrival and departure days. A three-night stay should not be assumed to include four unrestricted golf days.
Use the named courses, not the resort name
Marriott’s Praia D’El Rey golf page advertises unlimited-golf offers specifically in connection with Praia D’El Rey Golf Course. The page also mentions nearby West Cliffs. That separate mention is not confirmation that West Cliffs is included in the same offer: ask for the course-by-course terms of your quote.
Apply the same check anywhere with several courses. Establish which can be played repeatedly, which require a supplement, and whether a short course or practice facility is being described as unlimited. For broader hotel, meal, and transport inclusions, see our all-inclusive golf package guide. Here, the decision is specifically about extra golf.
Check how replay bookings work before paying
A real example: Pinehurst’s advance-booking limits
Pinehurst’s Premier Golf Package includes advance and replay rounds, but its published terms restrict advance bookings on selected courses. Additional rounds on those courses may be reserved after arrival, subject to availability. Its package directory also distinguishes unlimited golf from a package offering one round per night.
The useful distinction is between paying for a round and securing it. If a particular repeat round is essential, obtain written confirmation that it can be reserved for your dates before making the trip depend on it. These resort examples illustrate published terms; they are not DGE Golf offers or confirmations of current tee-time availability.
Ask what happens when the preferred slot is unavailable
Find out whether staff can offer another included course, a later start, or a shorter round, and whether any alternative costs extra. Ask about competitions, maintenance, and seasonal restrictions before committing. Do not assume unused replay opportunities produce a refund or credit; have the supplier explain its policy.
Keep the booking contact and instructions with your itinerary. A replay available only through the golf shop needs a different plan from a tee time already shown on your confirmation. Ask when to enquire, who can book for the group, and how to release a reservation if plans change.
Compare the upgrade with the golf you will use
Make the two quotes comparable
Request an unlimited option and a fixed-round option for identical travel dates, accommodation, occupancy, meals, and essential courses. Add the extras you would actually buy to each total. These may include course supplements, buggies, caddies, club hire, transfers, taxes, or resort charges; inclusion depends on the offer.
For a second round, check the charging unit. A buggy quote per round is different from one covering the whole day. Club hire may also need clarification if you change courses. If either item is necessary for someone to play, confirm availability as well as price. Our golf buggy guide covers the practical access questions.
Test the decision without the bonus round
Subtract the comparable fixed-round total from the unlimited total. Then compare that difference with the separately quoted cost of extra rounds you would choose to buy, including their associated charges. Use your actual quotes rather than a headline green fee or a hypothetical maximum number of holes.
For example, consider a suggested four-night stay with three planned rounds and one optional replay. Compare a three-round stay plus that replay with the unlimited offer. Repeat the comparison assuming the replay never happens. If the upgrade only makes sense with several unreserved extra rounds, the saving is uncertain. If it still suits your budget without them, flexibility may be a benefit worth paying for.
Make sure the extra golf fits the holiday
Count usable afternoons
Before planning two rounds in a day, ask the course about expected playing time, daylight, final starts, and buggy or caddie return requirements. Leave time for food and a delay in the first round. A late morning start followed by an early dinner commitment may leave little useful replay time.
Hotel moves and transfers between courses can also use the hours you hoped to spend playing. Start with our guide to choosing a realistic round count, then decide whether unlimited access improves that itinerary. Avoid adding rounds simply to justify the purchase.
Check capacity for the whole group
Eight golfers need two four-player starts to replay together; one available slot does not accommodate everyone. Ask whether consecutive starts can be arranged, whether smaller groups may be paired with other players, and whether all guests sharing rooms must book the same package.
Agree which rounds everyone wants and who would choose optional extras. Compare the cost for each traveller, especially when some prefer an afternoon away from golf. A package that works for the keenest player may be poor value for a roommate who only wants the confirmed morning rounds.
Frequently asked questions
Does unlimited golf guarantee two rounds every day?
No. Included green fees and an available tee time are separate things. Check which rounds can be reserved before travel, which replays are booked locally, and whether your dates and preferred courses have restrictions.
Are buggies and caddies included in unlimited golf?
Only when the offer explicitly includes them. Ask whether charges apply per round or per day and whether a second round incurs another fee. Check required caddie arrangements and any gratuities separately.
Can you play different courses on an unlimited golf package?
That depends on the named courses in the offer. Unlimited play on one course does not establish access to neighbouring courses or every course at the resort. Confirm any supplements and repeat-play limits in writing.
Is unlimited golf worthwhile if you only play once a day?
It can be if the complete package is competitive for the courses, meals, and accommodation you want. Compare it with a fixed-round quote for the same stay; do not count unused replay rounds as savings.
Choose a package around your priorities
Start with the essential rounds
Tell DGE Golf your dates, group size, preferred courses, and how many rounds each player wants. When comparing golf packages, ask for a clear distinction between confirmed tee times, included but unreserved replays, and chargeable extras. That gives you a trip you can assess before paying.
